What leaves Rhodes Diagoras Airport (RHO) in your suitcase is decided by the fare code on your ticket, not by the airport. The same 23-kilo case flies free on an Aegean ComfortFlex ticket, comes bundled in a TUI package, and is a paid extra on Ryanair, Jet2 or a SKY express SKY Joy fare. Three Rhodes-specific things worth knowing

First, which version of the flight you bought. TUI, Jet2, Condor and Eurowings sell the summer Rhodes routes twice over — as a package holiday and as a flight-only seat — and the flight-only version of the identical aircraft often carries no hold bag at all. Look for the word "package" on the confirmation before you count on a free case.

Second, the desk charges roughly double the app. Excess runs about €13 or £12 per kilo, so three kilos over costs €39 at the counter against nothing if you add the bag the night before. Weigh the case at the hotel — the olive oil, wine and ceramics that leave this island weigh more than anyone expects, and a bathroom scale settles it in a minute.

Third, there is nowhere to put the overflow. Diagoras has no left-luggage office anywhere in the terminal, so a bag that will not fit has to be paid for, repacked into cabin size, or left at the hotel. That cuts both ways: you cannot park a case here for a day trip either.

Liquids, duty-free and connections
